Where should you start with AI and business automation?

Successful automation starts with a small, well-defined task — not a huge project. Practical steps to choose your first task and measure the outcome.

Business owners hear a lot about AI, but the practical question is: which task in my company can be automated now, and with what result? The answer is rarely “everything”. The best start is one repetitive task you can describe clearly.

Pick a task with clear inputs and outputs

Good starting points: answering frequent questions from approved sources, classifying and routing incoming enquiries, updating a customer record after each conversation, or sending a follow-up after a missed call. For each of these you can define what goes in and what should come out.

Decide how you’ll measure success

Before building, agree on simple metrics: answer accuracy, response time and the share of cases that needed a person. Measure the current baseline first so you can compare after the pilot.

Design a clear hand-off to your team

An assistant shouldn’t handle everything. Cases that need judgement, permissions or a human touch should pass smoothly to a team member, with the full conversation context. That protects the customer experience and builds your team’s trust in the solution.

Test in real Arabic and dialects

If your customers write in Egyptian or Gulf dialect, test with their real messages, not polished examples. Understanding quality varies between models and dialects.

Pilot on a defined scope, then scale

Start with one channel or one type of request for a set period. Review results and errors, improve sources and instructions, then decide whether to expand. Factor in ongoing running costs such as model and platform usage fees — they’re part of the return calculation.
